Earth Inspectors is a fun series of choose-your-own-adventure books where you get to decide how the story goes. The third book in the series is called OLYMPUS: What is the Secret of the Oracle? It’s great for teens and anyone young at heart. If you can find a copy, it’s a really awesome read — but it’s pretty rare and kind of a secret itself, so grabbing one might be tricky.
Imagine this: you’re an advanced alien from the distant planet Turoc, and you’ve just been assigned a pretty wild mission — you’re an Earth Inspector, sent by Simbar, the Surveyor of the Spheres. Your task? Uncover the secret of the Oracle from ancient Greece. Sounds epic, right? Well, it gets even better.
You’ll find plenty of fascinating elements in this ancient Greek adventure, which would also appeal to sci-fi readers. For example, your alien technology allows you to jump through time and space. Plus, you have the power to transform into a regular-looking human, enabling you to blend right in with the Greeks and speak their language. You even have the power to cloak your spaceship so it appears as a boulder and remains undetected.
Once you land in Greece, the real Greek adventure begins. What will you discover? Who will you meet? Will you end up chatting with Apollo himself at the Oracle of Delphi? Do the Greek gods even exist, or are they all just smoke and mirrors? Then again, maybe you won’t even make it to the Oracle. You could be attacked by bandits or sold into slavery, and who knows where that might lead you? And when you’re in Greece, what’s the first thing you would like to do? Visit the Parthenon or go to the Agora? The choice is yours.
OLYMPUS, written by Edward Packard, takes you on an incredible trip back in time filled with surprises, adventures, challenges, and tough choices. Incredibly, he’s also the creator of Choose Your Own Adventure.
When I first picked up OLYMPUS, I had no idea how wild the ride would be. Honestly, it blew me away and took me way further than I ever expected to go, learn, and discover.
Allow me to share my own personal journey as an Earth Inspector in OLYMPUS: What is the Secret of the Oracle? My first read of Olympus turned out to be epic, so get ready — an exciting adventure awaits!
OLYMPUS: What is the secret of the Oracle?
I’m going to keep the crazy journey I had in Earth Inspectors: OLYMPUS pretty short and not give away too many details about how I got there. It all kicked off on Planet Turoc, where I learned about the role of Earth Inspectors.
My alien race are big on seeking knowledge, and one of the most mind-boggling things we’ve come across on Earth is the mystery of the Oracle from ancient Greece. Could the Oracle really predict the future and be all-knowing? Did the Olympian gods give the Oracle its power? That became my mission — uncover the secrets of the Oracle!
There were lots of Oracles in ancient Greece, but the most famous one was the Oracle of Delphi. Immediately, I thought, “This has to be my goal.” But, of course, I was learning as I went, and I had to decide when to take advice from the people I met along the way. I even ran into Socrates at one point! I met some pretty interesting characters who shared their wisdom — or at least tried to. But who could be trusted?
What stayed with me most during my adventure (and it might be in random order) is that I was betrayed by a priest, kidnapped by some bad guys on my way to Delphi and made into their slave. I managed to get away from them, but later, I was actually enslaved again in Athens — sold to someone, but thankfully I wasn’t sent to the salt mines. I was more like a dignified servant this time.
Honestly, I thought I’d totally failed in my mission to uncover the Oracle’s secret. I even flew back to my home planet, Turoc, thinking I’d blown it. But then, Simbar — the Surveyor of the Spheres — told me to try again because the secret of the Oracle was still out there waiting to be uncovered.
I entered the Delphi games as a contestant, hoping that winning would give me a shot to speak with the Oracle. I did win, but then I got disqualified. Poseidon himself, god of the sea, almost destroyed me while I was sailing to a port near Delphi! Or was it just bad weather?
So, did I make it to the Oracle? Yep. Did I uncover its secret as an Earth Inspector? Absolutely. I won’t spoil what I learned, but I will say — it was pretty eye-opening!
OLYMPUS in the Earth Inspectors series is a fantastic read. Who knows where your own journey might take you?
Earth Inspectors: OLYMPUS Book Review
I had an absolute blast reading OLYMPUS: What is the Secret of the Oracle? Honestly, I got incredibly lucky to snag this gem on eBay — it’s one of those hidden treasures that’s hard to find, especially with this stunning cover featuring an illustration of Olympus. The 101-page OLYMPUS book has lots of line illustrations to get your imagination going, but honestly, nothing comes close to the amazing cover. There’s also an Earth Inspectors: OLYMPUS book with an ugly plain cover, so be aware!
The series, Earth Inspectors, features 12 books, with different authors whisking readers away on thrilling adventures across the globe — America, the Amazon, Olympus, Australia, Venice, Africa, China, the U.S.A., Europe, Japan, England, and Russia.
Among these, OLYMPUS truly stands out, thanks to its fascinating connection to the Greek gods. It makes you wonder why it wasn’t simply called Earth Inspectors: Greece — or even better, Earth Inspectors: Ancient Greece.
I’d give OLYMPUS a fantastic 9 out of 10. I mean, I finally cracked the mystery of the Oracle’s secret — what more could I ask for? This book is a wild ride that’ll surprise you and drop you into a grand Greek adventure filled with wisdom and hidden truths. I bet young readers will totally love it. I’m already thinking about reading it again, next time making different choices to see where the story takes me.
Growing up, I was obsessed with classic Choose Your Own Adventure books, so I know this one’s got mass appeal — perfect for clever kids, cool teens, young adults, and anyone who loves a good adventure. Want to become an Earth Inspector? If so, this book’s definitely for you…
