OLYMPUS HEIGHTS: Comic Book Review

Olympus Heights TP by Kevin Munroe

I initially picked up Olympus Heights #1 just to see how the first issue was, but once I discovered there was an Olympus Heights trade paperback collecting the entire series, I knew I had to add it to my collection. At first glance, I thought it might be a high school story about the Olympian gods. However, I soon learned that the title Olympus Heights actually refers to the charming town where the story is set: Olympus Heights, Indiana, a cozy community with a population of just under 15,000 residents.

One of the main settings in the Olympus Heights comic is in the Olympus Heights Museum, a historic place dating back to 1892. Oliver Dobbs, a 25-year-old history enthusiast, runs the museum’s extensive Greek history and mythology collection.

Some of the exhibits have this creepy, menacing vibe that really amps up the mystery and suspense. It’s like a Greek mythology mystery with a splash of action and adventure — kind of like Night at the Museum (2006), where some exhibits come to life. And with Zeus himself playing a major part in Olympus Heights, you’ll definitely want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens next.

The story kicks off with a string of strange crimes around town, which has Oliver pretty on edge, adding plenty of mystery and suspense to the tale. To make things even more interesting, there’s Mr. Smith — a mysterious, reclusive guy who’s always walking the streets of Olympus Heights alone at night. Oliver’s suspicious of him, so he decides to stake him out one evening. But things don’t go quite as planned. Oliver ends up falling asleep while watching Mr. Smith, then trips over his own tied shoelaces, which he figures must have been tied by Mr. Smith himself. That’s the kind of humor you’ll find sprinkled throughout the Olympus Heights comic — light, funny moments that add a bit of charm to the adventure.

Olympus Heights promises a fun, myth-inspired adventure that keeps you hooked. If you love stories that blend mystery, mythology, and a dash of humor, this comic is definitely worth checking out!

Zeus is aware that Oliver’s time is running out — his imminent death is just around the corner. But he’s caught in a tough spot. He has the power to save Oliver and keep him alive, but doing so could risk revealing his true identity. The question hangs in the air: what should Zeus do? Will he take the chance to save Oliver, or stay in the shadows to protect his secret? The decision could change everything.

What Oliver Dobbs doesn’t realize is that one night, while he’s working late at the museum, a legendary creature stirs to life — the Calydonian boar from Greek myth. But this isn’t a friendly visit. The beast’s sole purpose is clear: to see Oliver Dobbs dead. Now it’s a battle of life or death, and Oliver’s fate hangs in the balance.

Olympus Heights weaves together multiple stories within one. Hades and Persephone also have a key role to play in the tale. Here, we discover that they’re truly in love with each other — though whether that love is driven by power, revenge, or something else remains a mystery.

Oliver Dobbs even has his own love story unfolding in Olympus Heights, and it’s all encouraged by Zeus himself. Zeus nudges him to finally reach out to a girl he met and liked during a donation pickup a couple of months ago. It’s a little push in the right direction for Oliver’s heart.

It looks like there’s only one hope left: the Olympian gods need to come together to stop a dark and dangerous plan. But that’s easier said than done — old grudges and rivalries are still alive, and they threaten to tear everything apart. To help Zeus, they might have to put their differences aside, or maybe some relationships are just too broken to fix. So, is anyone actually going to step up? Olympus Heights Back Cover Story Summary

When a comic is created mostly by one person — writing and art — it’s a clear sign of the incredible effort and passion that went into the project. Olympus Heights is a story that truly stands out, and if you grab yourself a copy, you’re in for an interesting read.

I’m going to give Olympus Heights a review rating of 7 out of 10. It’s got its quirks, like a whole lot of jokes that didn’t quite land and a few dialogues that could’ve felt more timeless. For example, there’s a panel where someone talks about getting home in time to watch Magnum P.I. Let’s be honest, that dates the story a bit, and younger readers probably won’t even get the reference. But overall, it’s a really cool and unique take on Greek gods, with Zeus, Hera, Hades, Persephone, myth creatures, and more.

Kevin Munroe did a pretty good job with the Olympus Heights comic, so I’ve got to give him respect. He totally drew me into the small American town of Olympus Heights, which made the story feel even more special. Glad I checked it out. It’s definitely something I’ll remember, and if this Olympus Heights review has piqued your curiosity, I’m sure you’ll also find it an intriguing read.
