You are in for an unforgettable experience in this tropical paradise if you ever visit Uluwatu. The first place I recommend visiting is Suluban Beach, or Uluwatu Beach! My Balinese driver took me here when I said I wanted to go to Uluwatu Beach, so go figure.
Suluban Beach: Uluwatu Guide
Suluban Beach is also known as Blue Point Beach and it’s a hidden gem tucked away beneath towering cliffs in Uluwatu, Bali.
This stunning beach is a popular spot for surfers seeking the perfect wave, and its clear blue waters never fail to mesmerize visitors.
Don’t be surprised if you hear locals referring to it as Pantai Uluwatu, as the beach is located near the iconic Uluwatu Temple.
The name Suluban actually means “crouch under” in the Balinese language, a nod to the narrow cave entrance that leads down to the sandy shores. This unique feature adds an air of mystery and adventure to the beach, making it a favorite among beachcombers and thrill-seekers alike.
Beach Club at Suluban Beach
Uluwatu Delphi Beach Club is a quiet beach club located at Suluban Beach. Just climb up the stairs – you can’t miss it!
The club offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean and features a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere that is perfect for lounging and enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
The beach club offers a range of facilities and amenities for guests to enjoy, including a swimming pool, sun loungers, and a bar serving refreshing cocktails and drinks.
Guests can also indulge in delicious dishes from the restaurant, which offers a mix of local and international cuisine.
Hidden Coves and Rock Pools at Suluban
Behold the serene waters of Suluban beach gleaming in the morning light, just a stone’s throw away next to the cliff with the beach club on top.
I had the pleasure of visiting this beach on two occasions in the morning and afternoon, and let me tell you, the morning experience was an absolute standout. The water was practically begging me to go in for a dip, like a siren calling out to wayward sailors.
Picture this: you’re standing on the edge of a narrow gap between two towering cliffs, like something straight out of an adventurous movie. But fear not, because on each side of this epic gap lies more beach space just waiting to be explored.
Now, on the left side of Suluban beach is where the real magic happens. This is where you want to be if you’re in the mood for some serious exploring. Nestled along the stunning coastline of Bali in Uluwatu, and possibly the best beach in Bali lies the enchanting Padang Padang Beach, a tropical paradise filled with white sandy shores and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
This stunning stretch of golden sand and crystal clear waters could easily attract the mighty Greek God of the sea, Poseidon himself.

I simply can’t mention stunning Padang Padang Beach without giving a nod to the fabulous movie “Eat Pray Love” featuring the lovely Julia Roberts. I must admit, I liked watching this flick. However, the beach scenes at Padang Padang, didn’t come close to capturing the true awesomeness of this beach paradise.
Eat Pray Love (2010) has given major attention to Padang Padang Beach, but it’s only when you set foot on its pristine sands and feel the sun on your skin that you truly understand its allure.
So, if you ever find yourself wandering through Bali in search of a slice of paradise, embark on your own odyssey to this breathtaking beach and immerse yourself in a world where beauty and modern cinema converge in perfect harmony.
Bingin Beach: Uluwatu Guide
Bingin Beach is a fantastic beach located on the Bukit Peninsula in Bali, Indonesia. It’s one Uluwatu beach not to be missed. Known for its crystal clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and excellent surfing conditions, Bingin Beach is a favorite spot among travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of busier tourist areas in Bali.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Impossible Cliff House for two out of the three nights I spent in Uluwatu. This epic spot perched on the cliffs above Bingin Beach had me saying “wow” over and over again. The view was straight up unreal and definitely one for the books. Can’t get over how awesome it was!

This dirt road will guide you straight to the coveted Dreamland Beach, a hidden gem that will take your breath away.

During the day, Bingin Beach is just your typical paradise with colorful beach umbrellas dotting the sandy landscape. But when the sun sets, the beach transforms into a magical dining destination.
Picture this: tables and chairs set up right on the sand, mere feet away from the gentle waves lapping at the shore. The ocean breeze carries the scent of grilled seafood, tempting your taste buds even before you’ve placed your order.
What makes this beach dining experience truly unique are the two restaurants that specialize in all things seafood.
From freshly caught fish to succulent shrimp, these chefs know how to barbecue the bounty of the sea into mouthwatering dishes that will have you thinking that you made a great decision to dine there. Balangan Beach: Uluwau Guide
Balangan Beach is the next beach over from Dreamland Beach, known for its pristine white sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and breathtaking views of the rugged cliffs that line the shore.
What truly sets Balangan Beach apart from the rest is the lookout that towers above it – a sacred spot that offers a panoramic view of the entire beach and beyond. Perched on top of a steep cliff, the lookout at Balangan Beach is accessible only by a narrow, winding path carved into the rock face.
As you make your way up the trail, the sounds of crashing waves and chirping birds grow louder, building a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead. I didn’t make it to the top of a cliff, but I could have if I kept on walking to the cliff in the far distance in the photo above.
Once you reach the summit, you will have a spectacular sight. As the sun begins to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the beach below, you understand why this lookout is considered a sacred place by the locals.
So, if you find yourself in Bali and are looking for a truly unique and unforgettable experience, make sure to visit Balangan Beach and take in the breathtaking views from the lookout. It will be a memory that stays with you long after you have left this magical place. I never about the Balangan Beach lookout until after my trip to Uluwatu, but I wish I went.
Here is the other side of the Balangan Beach from the spot where I was standing when I took the first photo, the picture above this one. This seemed to be the best swimming area at Balangan Beach as most tourists seemed to be around this section of the beach. There were also a few beach umbrellas and lounges here.
Nyang Nyang Beach: Uluwatu Guide
Nyang Nyang Beach is another hidden gem, so well hidden that I gave up on it, mainly due to time constraints and not wanting to walk all the way down to the beach and back up again. It would have been a different story if I had access to a moped.
The secluded stretch of white sandy beach is a paradise waiting to be discovered.
Nyang Nyang Beach, located in Bali, is a stunning destination with pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters. While some visitors claim that you can reach the beach on foot in just 10 minutes, my own experience tells a different story.
During my descent to Nyang Nyang Beach, it felt like I had been walking for much longer than 10 minutes and I hadn’t even reached the halfway point. The long and steep descent makes you think of having to make the arduous climb back up afterwards.
To avoid wasting time and energy on the trek down, I highly recommend renting a moped to make your journey to the beach more enjoyable. With a mode of transportation at your disposal, you can easily navigate the rugged terrain and arrive at the beach in no time.
Plus, you won’t have to worry about the strenuous climb back up, allowing you to fully enjoy your time on the beautiful shores of Nyang Nyang Beach.
Melasti Beach: Uluwatu Guide
Nestled among the stunning cliffs of Uluwatu, Melasti Beach is a cool beach waiting to be discovered by beach lovers and party-goers alike. This pristine stretch of golden sand is a welcome sanctuary for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of nearby tourist hotspots.
What truly sets Melasti Beach apart is its exclusive beach club, a chic and vibrant oasis that offers a perfect blend of relaxation and entertainment.
The club features luxurious daybeds, infinity pools overlooking the ocean, and a mouth-watering menu of tropical cocktails and fresh seafood. You can indulge in a spa treatment, take a yoga class, or simply soak up the sun while enjoying the stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Or if you prefer, just go to the beach!
But here’s the catch – Melasti Beach isn’t actually located in Uluwatu! In fact, it’s a bit of a well-kept secret that this picturesque beach is situated in Ungasan. You will find it at the very bottom of Bali and it’s not too far away from Uluwatu Temple.
This minor detail only adds to the allure of Melasti Beach, as it remains a hidden gem waiting to be discovered by those willing to venture off the beaten path. So, if you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable beach experience in Bali, make sure to add Melasti Beach to your itinerary.
Take a dip, sip on a cocktail at the beach club, and soak in the breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. It’s a true hidden paradise just waiting to be explored.
Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu temple is like the rockstar of Balinese temples, perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the roaring Indian Ocean.
Legend has it that monkeys guard the temple, ready to snatch anything shiny in exchange for a banana. Visitors must beware of their mischievous antics!
As the sun sets, the temple transforms into a mystical sanctuary for a spiritual experience. Just remember to hold onto your sunglasses tight, unless you want to see them swinging from a monkey’s tail!
Uluwatu Temple: Monkey Lesson
Me and my chauffeur found ourselves in an unexpected situation when we were sitting down. Out of the blue, a sneaky hand appeared, like a magic trick, between us as fast as a punch. It was a monkey, giving my driver friend a sneaky slap on the face!
He wanted his sunglasses, and it took him a moment to realize the monkey’s intentions. With a quick hand to his face, he managed to scare off the mischievous primate. It seems monkeys love shades, bags and water bottles, so remember to keep them close while exploring Bali’s wild side!
In the snapshot I captured, the mischievous little monkey dropped its water bottle. Needless to say, it wasn’t too pleased with its clumsy blunder.
Sunset at Uluwatu Temple
The crowd at Uluwatu Temple going for the sunset view was no joke – it was like a gathering of sunset enthusiasts from all corners of the globe, with Asians being in the majority. We’re talking hundreds of people, all eagerly awaiting the main event like they were about to witness a Broadway show. And let me tell you, the sunset did not disappoint.
It was like Mother Nature put on her best sparkly dress and did a twirl for us all to admire. The sky turned into a canvas of oranges, pinks, and purples, making the whole scene look like a dreamy watercolor painting come to life. It was a sunset worth braving the crowds for, that’s for sure.
History of Uluwatu Temple
Once upon a time in the mystical land of Bali, a powerful warrior named Dang Hyang Nirartha embarked on a sacred mission. Legend has it that he possessed magical powers and was on a quest to spread Hinduism across the island.
As he traveled, he stumbled upon a breathtaking cliff overlooking the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean. Enthralled by the beauty of the location, he decided to meditate and harness the divine energies that surrounded him.
During his meditation, he was approached by the gods who bestowed upon him the knowledge to build a temple on this sacred site. And so, with his bare hands and the help of local villagers, Dang Hyang Nirartha constructed the magnificent Uluwatu Temple.
Perched high on the cliff edge, the temple stood as a beacon of spirituality and protection for the people of Bali. Over the centuries, Uluwatu Temple has witnessed wars, invasions, and natural disasters, yet it has remained steadfast in its grandeur and significance.
It is believed that the temple is guarded by sacred monkeys who watch over its grounds and protect it from evil spirits. Today, Uluwatu Temple stands as a symbol of Balinese culture and spirituality, attracting visitors from around the world who come to marvel at its stunning architecture and breathtaking ocean views.
It continues to be a place of worship and pilgrimage, where devotees pay their respects to the gods and seek blessings for prosperity and good fortune.
Where to Stay in Uluwatu?
For three nights, I found myself enjoying life in Uluwatu. My first evening was spent at the famous Ancala Uluwatu, an excellent guest house within strolling distance to the majestic Uluwatu Temple.
It was a no-brainer choice, due its excellent rating on booking.com and the great price. I was pleased with my decision, even though the room was nothing to write home about, but hey, it served its purpose.
And let’s not forget about the quaint little pool that beckoned me for a midnight swim. Ahh, the perks of paradise!
During my stay in Uluwatu, I had the incredible opportunity to experience the Impossible Cliff House on Bingin Beach. It completely surpassed all expectations.
Nestled on the edge of a cliff, the views from this accommodation were nothing short of breathtaking. The crashing waves below and the expansive ocean stretching out before me created a sense of peace and tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere.
Aside from the stunning scenery, the food served at Impossible Cliff House also tasted great. Their Mexican tacos were bursting with flavor and left me feeling satisfied, while their pancakes were the perfect indulgence for a lazy morning.
Would I return to the Impossible Cliff House in Uluwatu? Without a doubt. The combination of stunning views, delicious food, and excellent hospitality left me with unforgettable memories.
Okay, I won’t hide the monkey problem there. At one point during my stay at Impossible Cliff House, I was thinking to myself, “Who does this little guy think he is, threatening me like that?”
I quickly grabbed the knife on my plate, ready to defend myself if necessary. The monkey must have sensed my newfound confidence because it quickly backed down, its toothy razor sharp scary smile now replaced with a look of uncertainty.
I lowered the knife, feeling a bit like a zookeeper in a tense standoff with a mischievous primate. In the end, I emerged victorious in the battle of wills between man and monkey. And to think, all it took was a little kitchen utensil to show that feisty little guy who was boss.
How Long to Spend in Uluwatu for the Best Short Stay
I spent three nights in Uluwatu and found it to be a decent amount of time to explore Bali’s southern tip. However, I also believe that a day trip to Uluwatu can be just as satisfying. In just one day, you could visit a couple of beaches and the iconic Uluwatu Temple perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
You could watch the breathtaking sunset at Uluwatu Temple or at one of the many beach clubs, and indulge in some delicious local cuisine in Uluwatu.
Whether you choose to stay in Uluwatu for one night, two nights, three nights, or just visit for the day, Uluwatu offers a unique blend of culture, natural beauty, and relaxation that is sure to leave you feeling rejuvenated and inspired.
