This review is based on BRZRKR Volume 1, which consists of four comics that make up the first part of a twelve-part series created by Keanu Reeves.
In the realm of the gods, where the mighty Olympians once roamed, a new hero emerges from the shadows. His name is B., a demigod forged in the fiery depths of the underworld, born from the unyielding passion of a mortal and the divine blood of the gods. His story is one of rage, rebellion, and redemption, as he wages war against the corrupt powers that seek to claim dominion over the mortal world. Okay, I admit it… some of this stuff is made up, but who really knows?
In this ultra-violent comic book series, the main character B. (short for Berserker) traverses a dark and gritty landscape, fueled by his unrelenting thirst for vengeance against those who have wronged him.
With each brutal battle, his legend grows, drawing the attention of those who seek to exploit his immortal strength for their own gain. As he slices through hordes of monsters and minions, B. becomes a force to be reckoned with, his violent rage rivaling the rage and fury of Ares, the God of War.
But B.’s story is not just one of mindless destruction; it is also one of self-discovery and growth. As he navigates the treacherous landscape of human politics and mythology, he must confront the darkness within himself and learn to wield his powers for the greater good. Will he be able to find redemption and forge a new path for himself, or will he succumb to the very demons that haunt him?
The comic book series BRZRKR blends myth with sci-fi! It has an an action-packed storyline that embodies the essence of Keanu Reeves’ iconic on-screen presence. It kicks off with a Matrix-inspired vibe, with protagonist B. even drawn to resemble Keanu Reeves.
BRZRKR Comic: The Action-Packed Debut
In this graphic novel series, the boundaries between fantasy and reality blur as B., a demigod with supernatural strength and agility, wages war against the corrupt forces that seek to exploit his powers.
The first volume of the BRZRKR comic series introduces readers to its protagonist B. As you can see in the scene below, readers should be prepared for violence galore! You will be exposed to plenty of it throughout the BRZRKR series.
People are intrigued by B., and it’s fascinating to discover what makes him so special.
The Gods in BRZRKR
It was also interesting to learn in BRZRKR Volume One that the Gods had a role to play in the birth of B. One wonders if these are the Greek Gods. The Greek-style vase in the comic panel scene below appears to hint at it.
Did Zeus, king of the Gods, Ares, God of war, or Hercules have a connection with B? I don’t know, because it isn’t revealed in Volume 1 of BRZRKR. At this stage it’s still a big mystery.
The Head of Belief Systems in BRZRKR
It sounds like something out of the George Orwell novel 1984. Having a character in BRZRKR with the title ‘Head of belief systems’ suggests that whoever is running the show aims to control people’s thoughts. But for what reason?
BRZRKR Comic Battles
You will see many fierce battles in BRZRKR. Can B defeat all of his opponents? Or does this demigod warrior also have a peaceful side to him? Find out by reading BRZRKR Volume One, which contains the first four comics in this epic series.
One of the most exciting things about BRZRKR Volume One is that it sets up an excellent cliffhanger ending, leaving readers feeling compelled to dive into BRZRKR Volume Two.
BRZRKR Review
The BRZRKR comic series, created by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, Ron Garney, and Bill Crabtree, offers an engaging start to the BRZRKR series storyline. While I wasn’t enthralled by the first volume, I still came across some very interesting moments.
I’ll give BRZRKR a rating score of 7/10. I must admit that my enthusiasm for Keanu Reeves as one of its creators has likely influenced my assessment. As a result, I probably did give it a score one point higher, than I otherwise would have.
As a big fan of his film career, I’ve written my own comic featuring Keanu Reeves in THE MATRIX. If you’re interested in seeing it, you can check it out here: THE MATRIX Comic about Keanu Reeves (Neo).
I still have eight more comic issues in the BRZRKR comic series to read, which could potentially lead to some exciting developments and improvements. I’m hoping that there are a few surprises for me down the track, with some solid connections to the Greek Gods and Goddesses in the BRZRKR storyline. Actually, that’s what I’m hoping to see the most!
What’s extra fascinating about the BRZRKR comic series is that it looks likely to expand beyond its comic book format, with plans for a film or TV series and an Anime adaptation. That’s where things will get really exciting!
Reading Tip: Some parts of BRZRKR reminded me of Frank Miller’s 300. If you enjoy ultra-violent graphic novels, you may also like this one.
