Saint Seiya Saintia Sho Stage 1 Shoko and Kyoko

Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho 1 Review

Shoko is a high school girl whose heart aches for her older sister, Kyoko. Years ago, Kyoko was whisked away to an elite school, and since then, communication has been a major no-go.

While Shoko isn’t the type to stew over jealousy about Kyoko getting that “special opportunity” or being a total genius at martial arts, she’s definitely reaching her boiling point. Seriously, someone better let her hear from her sister soon — or she’s ready to take on anyone standing in her way!

But hang on, there’s a lot more to Kyoko’s story than Shoko could ever imagine. Turns out, Kyoko was chosen for something way cooler (and far more dangerous) than just hitting the books: she’s training under the Goddess Athena to tackle some seriously dark forces lurking just beyond human understanding.

It boasts a unique vibe and offers some fascinating twists that fans of Greek mythology and adventure are sure to love.

If you want to delve deeper into the character of Athena from Greek mythology, I highly recommend the ATHENA graphic novel by George O’Connor — it’s truly a gem. Then you’ll know much more about her!

In the opening manga pages of “Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho,” high-school girl Shoko finds herself trapped in a chilling nightmare.

Imagine this: an otherworldly vine has chosen her as its target, weaving its tendrils of terror around her mind. The tension builds as reality blurs with the surreal, immersing readers in a gripping tale that feels like a sci-fi horror flick come to life. It’s an electrifying start that sets the stage for an unforgettable journey!

Volume 1 of the manga series is gearing up to take you on an exciting journey where you’ll face the ultimate embodiment of evil.

What’s their evil master plan, you ask? Well, you’ll have to read the manga to fully uncover that! In the meantime, here are some standout moments to look forward to.

Saint Seiya Saintia Sho Evil Woman Speaking

The manga talks about the comet Repulse in the manga Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho. It’s said to be an inauspicious star that brings the soul of Eris, the goddess of discord, back to life.

That’s right — the same Eris who stirred up all that drama that sparked the Trojan War! You know, the whole saga ending with Odysseus pulling that sneaky Trojan Horse trick. Talk about a fascinating connection between Greek mythology and Japanese manga!

Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho (The Female Saints)

In the world of Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho, things are definitely shaking up! Traditionally, the saints protecting Athena-sama were all guys, but as time rolled on, that changed big time.

How to Become a Girl Saint of Athena Explanation

In this spin-off manga series, we’re introduced to the inspiring stories of powerful female saints, and you guessed it — Shoko may just become one of them! While Volume 1 doesn’t completely transform her into a Saintia, the ending does show her boldly declaring her ambition to achieve that title!

It’s not just a spotlight on female saints in Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho — a cool flashback occurs when a Gold Saint makes an appearance! Check out this intriguing page!

Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho (Review & Rating)

Volume 1 of “Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho” (story by Masami Kurumada, art by Chimaki Kuori) serves as a decent introduction to a new generation of all-female Knights of the Zodiac. While it has its moments, volume 1 primarily sets the groundwork for their quest for love and peace without fully reaching its potential.

I won’t lie — I’m still a bit of a newbie when it comes to the Saint Seiya universe. I have seen the action/adventure flick Knights of the Zodiac (2023) and dabbled in a handful of episodes from the original Saint Seiya anime series, but that’s about it for me right now.

As for reading all the volumes of Saintia Sho, yeah, that’s not something I plan to do. While I found the Saintia Sho manga intriguing, I noticed it contained a fair amount of low-quality filler, which dragged the pacing somewhat.

Honestly, I believe the story and artwork would have shone even brighter if the manga were half its length. Eliminating the unnecessary elements would have significantly enhanced the overall quality! Plus, it would have allowed more attention to be given to the remaining pages.

But I’m super interested in checking out the Saintia Sho anime series! The Saintia Sho animation aired from December 2018 to February 2019, crafted by Toei Company with the animation magic of Gonzo, and ran for 10 episodes.

This manga does provide an incredibly interesting premise that draws you in right from the start!

Here’s a quick recap: Athena, the fierce goddess of war and wisdom, makes her epic comeback just as the forces of evil are getting ready to engulf the world. But she’s not alone in this battle. She’s backed by her fierce crew of warrior knights known as Saintia, each decked out in jaw-dropping battle armor called Cloths, all prepared to take on the evil forces of destruction. Each piece of armor is infused with the power of its own guardian constellation, making them even more formidable.

To sum it up, the story of Shō, her sister Kyoko, and Athena serves as a brilliant testament to courage and camaraderie. Together, they boldly face the tumultuous chaos unleashed by the minions loyal to Eris, the Goddess of Discord. In doing so, they transform every confrontation into a vibrant celebration of strength, friendship, and an unwavering dedication to peace and love.

The spin-off manga story strongly resonates with the spirit of “Dragon Ball Z,” showcasing how the power of companionship can illuminate even the darkest challenges.

“Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho” pulls readers into an extraordinary cosmic struggle — the eternal clash between good and evil. Let the celestial battles commence!

I’d rate Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho (Volume 1) an okayish 6 out of 10. While it has its flaws, it has successfully ignited my interest in the anime series, and for that, I’m grateful.
