Jacin and the Olympians #1: First Impressions & Preview

Jacin and the Olympians 1

I’ve only read the first 12 pages of Jacin and the Olympians #1, but I can tell you, the full story looks like it’s going to take readers on an epic space adventure. Imagine a world where the gods of Olympus are still hanging out on Earth, just chilling with humanity. Then suddenly, everything flips. Out of nowhere, these dark Titans — come crashing back, armed with cybernetic giants, cyclops, and chimera, all aiming to wipe out Zeus and his Pantheon and burn the planet down.

Enter Jacin Mukai, a badass heroine, along with her crew of genetically engineered demigoddess clones. They’re racing against time aboard the starship Olympia to find the legendary Colossi — massive mech creatures inspired by Greek myth. Their goal? Build the ultimate giant mech warrior, Talos, to fight back and save what’s left of humanity.

The first section of this comic showed me a cool mix of Greek myth, tech, chaos, and sci-fi mayhem. So, in this preview of Jacin and the Olympians #1, you’ll get to see some of it too. Just keep in mind that this comic preview covers up to page 12 out of 50 — that’s all I could easily access for now…

Flashback: Earth’s pretty much a battleground! Fighter pilot Diana is told to return immediately — Olympia is launching, and she needs to be there. But it’s not that simple. She’s a brave spaceship warrior fighting the Titans.

Diana is caught in a tough spot. The commander, who is also her father, still believes the gods can help, but things are extremely dire. The truth is, they’re all gone — wiped out by the Titans. He tells her she can’t possibly win, and honestly, she knows it too. Earth’s lost. The remnants of Humanity are about to make their escape on board the starship Olympia.

A baby girl is crying — Diana’s daughter, Jacinta. She’s seen with Diana’s father, and her brave actions are giving Jacin and the Olympians a chance to escape. She tells her caring father that Jacin is more important than anyone realizes, and she asks him to look after her.

Jacin and the Olympians #1 then jumps to the present time. Jacin is seen aboard the starship Olympia, her figure tense as she suddenly springs into motion after someone calls out to her. She darts away and makes a swift escape. As she hurriedly departs the scene, a wanted poster comes into view — labeled “Daemon Child,” marked with a bold “WANTED” across the top.

The comic explains that Jacin Mukai is the daughter of Diana, renowned as the finest Flan Xiphos pilot ever witnessed, and the granddaughter of Haruki Mukai, the co-engineer of the Olympia. Orphaned at the age of twelve following Mr. Mukai’s death, Jacin endured a turbulent year, bouncing between foster homes and juvenile detention. Eventually, she ran away and spent the following three years living off the grid, often staying hidden while onboard the Olympia.

After being caught, Jacin asks General Hippolyta what he wants from her. He tells her that they need her help. He then takes her to see the Colossi — built by the god Hephaestus and powered by the last Zeusonium, aka Thunderbolt energy. To her surprise, she finds out that only a select few know about it and nobody has been able to figure out how to activate them.

Jason and the Olympians #1: Review Conclusion

I’m holding off on giving Jacin and the Olympians #1 a comic rating since I’ve only read about a quarter of it, so I don’t think it’s fair to judge it at this stage. Hopefully, someday I’ll get the chance to read the entire story. Honestly, what I’ve read so far has piqued my curiosity to want to see how the story unfolds.

This Band of Bards comic, Jacin and the Olympians #1, published in 2023, introduces some really cool ideas, and what I’ve read hints at an epic space saga. However, I wish the character designs were more eye-catching and memorable, as they come across as a bit dull visually. Jacin, the main protagonist, looks quite plain and uninteresting, to say the least.

You might be wondering if there’s a Jacin and the Olympians #2 comic, but as far as I know, it doesn’t exist. I can’t say whether it would have been beneficial, because I don’t know how the Jacin and the Olympians #1 comic ends or whether it has a satisfying conclusion. If you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read here, definitely check it out and see how it all turns out for Jacin and the Olympians — a clear play on Jason and the Argonauts!

For some reason, Jason and the Olympians #1 reminds me of the ARGONAUTS Special from Altered Reality Comics, with its own unique space adventure story. If you like these kinds of comics, there’s also this awesome comic called God Complex: Dogma that mixes Greek mythology with sci-fi in a really interesting and engaging way. If you’re into Greek mythology comics and graphic novels, you’ve also got to check out some of these!
