Maybe you knew this, but it just recently hit me: Homer Simpson’s first name is actually Greek. Yep, Homer — famous for his epic poems The Odyssey and The Iliad, the legendary stories that have inspired countless films, including Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which was released in July 2026. Now that’s a serious connection to American cartoon history!
Here’s the fun part: Simpsons Comic #70, titled Greek to Me, features Bart Simpson as a mash-up of Hercules, Odysseus, and Perseus — thanks to Zeus! Yes, Bart gets to go on an epic Greek odyssey of his own!
The Simpsons comic is bursting with Greek mythology vibes, dripping with epic mythic flair. Or maybe it’s a cosmic joke where Homer and Bart get to pay homage to ancient legends, Greek gods, and even Medusa! Who could have ever foreseen that?
Alright, I’m not giving away too many details in this Simpsons comic review — I’m really just letting you know that there’s this Simpsons comic #70 with a Greek mythology storyline you might want to check out.
How do I rate it? Honestly, it’s not a classic. It does have a few amusing Greek mythology scenes, though. Simpsons Comic #70 even touches on the Hades and Persephone myth, and ends with a little nod to Aesop’s Fables. Sounds cool enough… but overall, the comic felt pretty average to me. I’d give it about a 5.5 out of 10.
I think there are way better Greek mythology comics out there, like the ones you’ll find here. And if you’re into something totally unique — like weird mashups — you’ve got to check out my Superman comic that mixes Greek god themes with a touch of Simpsons. It’s a strange combo, just like Simpsons comic #70 with its connection to Homer and Zeus.
