I’ve been saving this Apollo graphic novel for a special moment. I wanted to take a photo of Apollo: The Brilliant One by George O’Connor next to the Apollo Fountain in Hyde Park, which is such an incredible spot. When I finally went to the Let’s Go Greek Festival in Parramatta, I knew it was the perfect time. I read the whole thing on the flight, and honestly, it was amazing — such a cool read.
O’Connor is basically a Greek myth wizard — his knowledge of the Greek gods and goddesses is next level. Every time I dive into his books, I get hit with fresh insights that totally blow my mind. I’ve already checked out his Olympians: Zeus and Olympians: Athena, so I had pretty high expectations, and honestly, he crushed it once again.
The Olympians series by George O’Connor keeps blowing me away, and Apollo is no different. It’s full of amazing revelations and timeless stories. If you’re into Greek mythology or just want a killer comic about Apollo, you’ve got to check it out — trust me, it’s a wild ride.
Olympians Apollo: Graphic Novel Review
So, Apollo: The Brilliant One kicks off with a Muse introducing us to the god himself. Then we get the story of Apollo’s birth — Hera giving Leto, his mother, a hard time while she’s pregnant with him and his twin Artemis. Zeus tries to offer some protection, but danger’s always just around the corner.
One of the coolest parts is when we hear from Kalliope, one of the nine Muses. Basically, this isn’t just a story about Apollo — it’s also about the Muses, those legendary figures who’ve inspired humans for ages. It’s a really awesome mix of gods and inspiration!
Apollo is an Olympian god, so you know he’s got a bit of a temper. Wonder what a god would do to anyone who played a part in hurting his mother? I’ll leave that one for you to discover. But yeah, it’s another fascinating revelation…
Here’s what the back cover of Olympians: Apollo has to say about the story. Honestly, it sounds pretty awesome, don’t you think? By the end, you really get a good sense of who Apollo is — like his brief romances, such as with the beautiful nymph Daphne, his epic musical contests that ended in tragedy, and so much more. There’s a lot packed into it, and it’ll definitely keep you hooked.
I’m giving Apollo: The Brilliant One from George O’Connor’s Olympians series an 8.5 out of 10. It’s another fantastic addition to his collection, and I genuinely enjoyed it. While some panels could’ve been a bit sharper, and nothing quite hits as a standout moment, the overall art style has this cool, inspiring vibe that leaves a lasting impression.
If you’re into Greek mythology and great comics, it’s definitely worth a read. And if you’re into the creative arts, you’ll probably love it even more. So, take the Muses’ advice — Apollo really is the brilliant one!
