Jason and the Golden Fleece is a fantastic Greek myth and legend, so with the assistance of AI, I have created this Jason and the Golden Fleece review to look into it more.

Yep, I am getting quite slack these days, now that I have a writing friend who is more intelligent than me and willing to work for nothing.

During their epic voyage to find the Golden Fleece, Jason and his crew face a series of challenges and confrontations with powerful creatures and beings.

The graphic novel captures the epic nature of the Greek myth, showcasing the characters’ bravery and daring as they battle against seemingly impossible odds.

So would I recommend reading this Jason and the Golden Fleece by Nel Yomtov? By the end of this Jason and the Golden Fleece review, you will find out, but obviously — the answer is yes!

If you are interested in the storyline or the illustrations, you may want to get a copy for yourself, a young kid in your family, or some friends.

First, let’s take a closer look at the classic storyline of Jason and the Golden Fleece, also called Jason and the Argonauts, which many people prefer to use, myself included.

The movie Jason and the Argonauts (1963) is easily one of the best Greek Mythology movies to watch. If you haven’t seen it, you have to watch it.

PS — I’ll tell you this before we start this Jason and the Golden Fleece review. I’m very slack because AI did much of this work…

Jason and the Golden Fleece by Nel Yomtov Review

I will not tell you the exact story of Jason and the Golden Fleece as told by Nel Yomtov. What I am going to do is mix things up a bit with the general understanding of the Greek myth.

In the story of Jason and the Golden Fleece, Hera is a powerful goddess who takes an interest in Jason’s quest to find the Golden Fleece. She appears to Jason in a dream and instructs him to call forth the greatest heroes in Greece to join him on his mission.

Hera tells Jason that he must travel to the city of Iolcus and make his case before King Pelias, his uncle and the usurper of his father’s throne.

Hera assures Jason that she will help him along the way. First, he must first gather a group of the best and bravest men in Greece to join his cause.

With Hera’s guidance, Jason sets out on his mission, gathering heroes like Heracles, Orpheus, and Castor and Pollux.

Each of these heroes brings their own unique skills and strengths to the mission, making Jason’s band of companions a formidable force against the dangers they face.

Throughout the tale, Hera assists Jason and his allies, using her divine powers to protect and guide them toward success in obtaining the Golden Fleece.

As you can see, things happen slightly differently in this retelling of Jason and the Golden Fleece by Nel Yomtov.

Hylas and the Water Nymphs

The story of Hylas and the water nymphs is a Greek myth that tells the tale of a handsome youth named Hylas who is traveling with the Argonauts, the group of heroes who accompanied Jason on his quest for the Golden Fleece.

Hylas attracted the attention of the water nymphs who lived in the streams and rivers. As Hylas went to fetch water from a stream, he was lured into the water by the beautiful nymphs who beseeched him to stay with them forever.

Hylas and the Water Nymphs

They claimed he would never age or suffer harm if he remained with them. Their song was so alluring that Hylas was utterly entranced. He did not return to the Argos when the others called for him.

Meanwhile, the Argonauts were becoming increasingly concerned about Hylas’s disappearance, and they sent out search parties to look for him, as did Heracles (Hercules).

In the classic Jason and the Argonauts movie, Hylas was crushed by Talos when the giant bronze man toppled over him.

However, as you can see in this graphic novel telling of Jason and the Golden Fleece, Nel Yomtov uses the water nymphs as the reason for the disappearance of Hylas.

Phineus, the blind Prophet

Phineus was a blind prophet in Greek mythology, known for his ability to see the future. However, his gift was also a curse, as it brought him great suffering.

According to the myth, Phineus was punished by the gods for revealing their secrets to humans.

As a result of his transgression, Phineus was blinded and exiled to an island, where he was constantly plagued by large, carnivorous birds known as the Harpies.

Phineus the Blind Prophet

The Harpies would swoop down and snatch away his food every time he attempted to eat, leaving him hungry and in constant discomfort. This continued for years until the arrival of the Argonauts, led by Jason, on their quest for the Golden Fleece.

Impressed by Jason’s bravery, Phineus offered to reveal to him the location of the Golden Fleece if Jason would help him to rid himself of the Harpies. Jason agreed, and with the help of his friend and fellow Argonaut, Zetes (who had wings), they were able to chase away the Harpies and restore Phineus’ ability to eat in peace.

Grateful for their help, Phineus told Jason and the Argonauts how to navigate through the Symplegades, or Clashing Rocks, which had been the downfall of many sailors. He also foresaw the Argonauts’ successful voyage to Colchis and the eventual loss of the Golden Fleece to Aeetes, the king of Colchis.

Goddess Aphrodite and Goddess Hera

In Greek mythology, Aphrodite was the goddess of love, beauty, and sexuality. One story involving Aphrodite and her son, Cupid, comes from the tale of Jason and the Argonauts.

Goddess Aphrodite talking to Goddess Hera

According to the myth, Jason and the Argonauts were on a quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece. Upon arriving in Colchis, the kingdom where the Fleece was held, they encountered the beautiful and powerful sorceress, Medea. Medea was the daughter of the king of Colchis and was known for her skill as a sorceress.

Aphrodite summoned her son, Cupid, and instructed him to use his arrows to make Medea fall deeply in love with Jason. Cupid shot one of his arrows into Medea’s heart, causing her to immediately fall in love with the hero. Medea then used her magical powers to help Jason complete the tasks required to obtain the Golden Fleece.

The story of Aphrodite, Cupid, and Medea shows how love can be a powerful force, capable of overcoming even the most seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It also demonstrates the importance of seeking help from the gods when facing challenges that seem impossible to overcome.

Three other graphic novels based on Greek mythology by Nel Yomtov (as shown above):

The Adventure of Hercules (Nel Yomtov)

The Adventure of Hercules is a children’s book written by Nel Yomtov. It is based on the story of Hercules, a mythical Greek hero famous for his incredible strength and legendary feats.

The book begins with the birth of Hercules, the son of Zeus and a mortal woman named Alcmene. Hercules was given god-like strength as a baby and was destined to become a great hero.

As he grew up, Hercules faced many challenges. One particularly notable challenge was the slaying of the Nemean Lion. The lion was a fearsome beast that terrorized the village of Nemea, and no weapon could harm it. But Hercules was able to use his incredible strength to strangle the lion and save the village.

The book also highlights Hercules’ famous 12 labors, which were assigned to him as a punishment for killing his wife and children in a fit of madness. The labors included tasks such as capturing the Erymanthian Boar, cleaning the Augean Stables, and capturing the three-headed dog, Cerberus, who guarded the underworld. These tasks were considered impossible for mortals to complete, but Hercules was able to accomplish them all with his strength and cunning.

Another significant event in Hercules’ life was his love for the beautiful Deianira. As a wedding gift, Hercules defeated the river god Achelous, who had been trying to win Deianira’s love. However, their happiness was short-lived, as Deianira accidentally poisoned Hercules with a shirt that had been dipped in the venom of the Hydra. After realizing what had happened, she took her own life.

The book concludes with Hercules’ ascension to Olympus, where he became a god after his death. The story of Hercules has inspired countless works of art and literature, and his deeds continue to captivate readers of all ages.

Theseus and the Minotaur (Nel Yomtov)

Theseus and the Minotaur is a children’s book written by Nel Yomtov. The story is based on the Greek myth of the same name. It tells the tale of the cunning Greek hero Theseus, who was tasked with defeating the fearsome Minotaur, a creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull that lived in a labyrinth on the island of Crete.

In the story, Prince Theseus volunteers to slay the Minotaur in order to end the human sacrifices that were demanded by King Minos of Crete. He travels to Crete and meets the king’s daughter, Princess Ariadne, who falls in love with him and agrees to help him defeat the beast. Ariadne gives Theseus a ball of thread, which he uses to find his way out of the labyrinth after defeating the Minotaur. With Ariadne’s help, Theseus is able to successfully slay the Minotaur and end the terrible sacrifice of human lives on Crete. The story of Theseus and the Minotaur is a classic tale of bravery, cunning, and determination, and has been retold in countless adaptations over the years.

Kill the Minotaur graphic novel gives another take on this famous Greem myth about Theseus and the Minotaur.

Perseus and Medusa (Nel Yomtov)

Another of Nel’s works is “Perseus and Medusa,” which tells the story of Perseus, a demigod tasked with defeating the monstrous Medusa and protecting his people from her deadly gaze. The graphic novel is a stunning retelling of this classic tale, showing how perseverance and courage can overcome even the most terrifying opponents.

Lessons from Jason and the Golden Fleece

The story of Jason and the Golden Fleece, an ancient Greek myth, contains many valuable lessons that are still relevant today. Here are a few real-life lessons that can be learned from the story:

The power of teamwork

Jason’s success in acquiring the Golden Fleece was due in large part to the teamwork of his fellow Argonauts. Each crew member brought unique skills and abilities to the table, allowing them to overcome the many obstacles they faced on their journey. In the workplace, school, or any other collaborative environment, success often relies on each individual contributing their abilities towards a common goal.

The importance of perseverance

Jason and his crew faced many challenges on their journey, including battles with monsters and surviving treacherous seas. Their unwavering determination and persistence ultimately allowed them to overcome these obstacles and successfully retrieve the Golden Fleece. In real life, facing setbacks and challenges is a part of the journey towards achieving success, whether it be in career, education, or personal goals. Persevering through adversity can ultimately lead to the accomplishment of those goals.

Redemption

Jason was originally portrayed as being a selfish and stubborn hero, but through his journey, he learned the importance of listening and taking advice from others. This allowed him to become a better leader and ultimately succeed in his quest. In real life, it is important to recognize one’s flaws and work towards improving them, and to be open to growth and change.

The Consequences of Greed

The quest for the Golden Fleece led to many power struggles and conflicts between the Argonauts, but it was the greed of King Aeetes that ultimately led to his downfall. In real life, the desire for material wealth or power can often lead to negative consequences and damage relationships with others.

Betraying the trust of the Gods

The story of Phineus represents the consequences of betraying the trust of the gods, as well as the importance of seeking help from others when facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It also emphasizes the power of prophecy and foresight, which were often seen as gifts that came with great suffering and responsibility.

Overall, the story of Jason and the Golden Fleece teaches us about the importance of teamwork, perseverance, redemption, and the consequences of greed. These lessons are still relevant and valuable today.

Jason and the Golden Fleece Review Rating

I have recently read a few graphic novels about Jason and the Golden Fleece, also known as Jason and the Argonauts.

The book has some good stuff in it, but this is not the best graphic novel about Jason and the Golden Fleece myth I have read.

There are some good scenes and some truly terrible-looking scenes in the graphic novel. For instance, one that sticks in my mind is the Cupid scene where he shoots an arrow at Medea. That could have been done a whole lot better. What was the illustrator thinking?

I give the graphic novel Jason and the Golden Fleece by Nel Yomtov a rating review score of 5.5 out of 10.

It’s more suited for younger kids, as the wording and illustrations suggest.

I liked it enough to do this Jason and the Golden Fleece review, so it’s still worth checking out. If you want to know more about the graphic novel, click on the link below.
